During the summer of 2003, while tangling with one of the Ratchet & Clank series and chatting with
whiteyfawks about random suit projects at a donut shop in Cupertino, the idea of a
Space Vixen came to mind. I was partially inspired by something
prickvixen once suggested, doing a 50s B-movie style velour space suit with piping and faux tubes. Why not mix them up in fursuit form? With proper padding under body and a large (bigger than human) head, the velour body would in theory downplay my mannish shoulders that I'm always self-conscious while wearing Candy Coon.
Originally it was to be a full velour outfit with only fuzzy head and tail, but then it seemed to work better with just a velour torso, furry upper arms & legs, and velour gloves and boots somewhat akin to the stylized outfits from Sailor Moon. (perhaps more like Cyber Lady Suzuka)
penh and another friend wanted to be conspirators in this space girls entourage, who I'd later call "StarGuard" (after the singing group portraying Lucy and the Diamonds from the Frampton & the BeeGees' Sgt. Pepper film). Since the lavender shaggy fur I was planning to use for the vixen also came in light blue and pink, we figured on a
pink bunny and a light blue
something. Maybe something distinctively black & white colored purple and light blue? Not a panda, but perhaps a
lemur? We decided a
border collie would round out the trio.
I came up with starry names:
Astra (vixen),
Stella (bunny) and
Luna (border collie). I got as far as getting to LA in August to buy the colored fur, but over time eventually lost interest as other projects took the place on my plate:
Walden retrofit Dec 03
Y2K9 summer 04
Camper retrofit summer 05
PolkaDog v2 fall 05
Tech E. Coyote summer 06
PepperPup facelift fall 06
Bosco summer-fall 07
Twilight spring 08
The last nail in closing out this coffin was finally using the lavender fur I'd set aside for Astra to build my bunny Twilight.
